Nissan Repair: Differentials - Nissan Xterra 2000, crankcase transmission, nissan xterra

Question
Thank you for doing what you do for free.  I recently went for an oil change and they recommended that I need to change all my differentials, axles and transfer case.  My mileage is 93000.  My question is what's the downside of not fixing these?  Thanks again.

Answer
Hello -

Oil does 3 things - whether in your crankcase, transmission, axle, etc -

Lubricates
Cleans
cools

As oil gets older, it loses these properties, so yes, it should be changed regularly. The other down side is that wear and tear causes metal pieces to be suspended in the oil. causing problems later if you do not replace the oil.

Hope this helps -
thanks
