Nissan Repair: 1991 Sentra-cruise and speedometer not work, speedometer cable, hi mike

The speedometer and cruise control stopped working.  Fuses are good and everything else works.  Over 300K on this one.

Hi Mike -

First thing I would check is the speedometer cable, especially with all that mileage. Secondly, it could be the plastic gear that runs the cable. Remove the cable connection where it meets the transmission, and you will see the gear. Inspect the teeth for breaks. The cable is accessed by removing the cable housing behind the instrument panel. You may pull it out from there and inspect.
