Nissan Repair: wheel bearings, nissan 4x4, wheel bearings

Question
I have nissan 4x4 pickup 1994 XE i am getting a metal grinding sound from the rear wheel . i checked the brakes they are fine. i am thinking the bearing needs grease? possibly and are they hard to change out? thanks Dan

Answer
Don,

If the rear wheelbearing is grinding you need to be sure to see it is actually the bearing.  Remove the wheel, break pads or shoes and rotate the assembly to be sure.  To replace the axle bearing you have to remove the differential cover and remove the bolt and clip and then push in and remove the clip and slide the driveshaft out and then have the bearing pressed off and a new one pressed in.
