Nissan Repair: 2007 Nissan Altima Transmission, 2007 nissan altima, nissan altima

Question
I have a 2007 Altima. The car has 12,000 miles. Recently the car would not run so I took it in to the Nissan dealer for repair. They fixed a computer and throttle. They also told me the transmission is shot. They said someone drained the transmission fluid. They are now saying it will cost us $6000 to replace the transmission. They are also saying this is not covered under warranty b/c someone tampered with the transmission. Does this sound right? Could someone mistake the transmission cap for the oil cap and drain the wrong fluid?

Answer
Shanna,

If you have a 2007 vehicle and it is still under warranty I would be looking into where service was performed.  If you have not taken it in anywhere other than the dealer then this is on them.  If an aftermarket shop like a Quickie Type Lube place did something then you will have to go back to them and raise heck and get them to pay for your transmission.  I cannot imagine a car that is a year old having a defective transmission.  If the dealer is the only one that has messed with the car would lead me to call the Nissan USA number in your owners manual and raise heck with them and explain the issue.  My car messed up and I had it repaired at the dealership and now they want to charge me to replace the transmission.  Now, if you bought the car and it only has 12K miles on it and you have done nothing to it and the transmission fluid was low all this time then it is on the dealer for not doing the make ready service where they check all fluids prior to giving you the car.  Check your records to see where the dealer's make ready department did the inspection prior to presenting the car to you.  If you have that you have them by the you know what...
