Nissan Repair: wandering steering, cv joints, torque steer

Question
My daughters 1990 maxima started doing something scarey this week, when she acclerates to about 25 mph the car will start to shoot to the right while the steering wheel is still in the straight position and when she starts to slow down the car will go to the left and the steering wheel is still in the straight position. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance...Doug

Answer
Doug,

First I would check the engine mounts to make sure the engine is not shifting.  Another cause would be that the CV joints could be coming a part and that would cause torque steer like you describe.  Check the mounts first.  Lastly, if the suspension is loose it could cause the car to walk left to right as the control arms load and unload.
