Nissan Repair: Car restoration, nissan maxima, howling wind

Question
i am interested in having my 1992 Nissan maxima restored. I've gone on line and found a car restoration company but they never answered my questions or called me back. I'm really interested in doing this, do you think it is worth it.I figured i would spend about $10,000.00 having this done. My car is falling apart little by little, the only really good thing is that my leather seats are in great condition, by the way i have 160,000 miles on this car, its a automatic, 4 door sedan, the engines making noises and the car has a funny noise that it didn't have before, its like a howling wind kind of noise. my shocks are so bad that every little bump on the street sounds like the car is going to fall apart. Can you give me some advise. Also my car has a sun roof. I'm not really interested in all these new cars, i don't like the bodies and they all look to bulky. i would appreciate any advice you can give me or a good car restoration place to go to. thanx

Answer
Rose,

The 1992 Maxima is a great car and you can find most anything on-line for restoration.  Stillen makes rebuild motors that have more horsepower than your stock one and it is just a bolt in.  They are in Southern California.  Another source of parts is courtesynissan.com out of Richardson, Texas.  Sears is probably the least expensive for doing the suspension work.  Check the Sunday paper and have them do all four struts, with an alignment for a super deal.  Get the upgraded struts and that will be one less thing do to.  The funny howling noise is probably the transmission and that is going to be the most expensive part.  I do not know where you live so I could not recommend a shop.  But, if it were me it is just getting a little done here and there until it is the way you like.  Ask around for a place locally that does paint.
