Nissan Repair: Pathfinder clunking sound, steering linkage, ball joints

Question
I have a 1999.5 Pathfinder.  When I turn the steering wheel left or right while driving there is a loud 'ca-clunk' sound up in the area of the front right wheel.  I have looked for signs of wear, worn out bushings and other obvious issues but can't find the problem.  CV joint? tie rod?  steering linkage?  ball joint?  Any tests I can do myself to try to determine the trouble??  Is there any history of issues or a tsb on this model that may point to the trouble?  thanks.

Answer
Jess,

If yours is 4X4 it could well be a CV joint up front.  You would look for a torn boot.  If the ball joints or tie rods are going out I would look for the noise while someone else it turning the wheel lock to lock.  There are no TSBs or Recalls on suspension for your year.  Basically, the vehicle has a bulletproof suspension design and I am sure this is just associated with age.
