Nissan Repair: Changed 2.4l Motor in 97 Altima, nissan altima, circuit tester

Question
We have changed the motor in our 1997 Nissan Altima and it will not react to turning over, it does nothing.
I do not know if it makes a difference but there is one stray wire coupling at the firewall and 2 strays at the throttle body (choke assembly). The throttle body is different. The new motor has 1 plugin and the old motor has 2. The starter is wired correctly. The belts do not have to be installed to turn over do they?
The coils are different. The new motor only has 1 plugin on distributor cap and it is broke, we took it out and installed the old distributor but it does not have a slot for the coil wire.

Answer
Hello -

You will need a 12V light circuit tester. Assuming that the battery has full power, first check the power going to the starter. If there is no power, then check connections to the battery, fusible link, and all cables.

If there is power to the starter, try jumping the battery wire and the solenoid wire where they meet at the starter. If the engine does not turn, replace the starter. If the engine turns, then check the ignition switch, or wiring going to it.

Let me know how this goes -
