Nissan Repair: 93 altima starting problems, fuel pressure regulator, vacuum hose

Question
car turns over but takes a long time to start.when i press the gas a little bit it starts up and it idles at about 900-1000rpm.It backfires slightly when reving.I checked spark, fuel/pressure-55psi and sparkplugs. the plugs are soaking wet with fuel,I replaced plugs and cleaned the throttle body, still the same thing. turns over forever then barely starts. Any thoughts on this?

Answer
Patrick,

I would check the fuel pressure regulator since it seems that it is not working and you are maxing out on fuel pressure.  If you remove the vacuum hose from the regulator the pressure should rise.  My bet is it is going to stay the same.  Check it out and email me back.
