Nissan Repair: 2001 Nissan Xterra spark plug removal, nissan xterra, flex head

Question
I removed 5 of the plugs, but can't seem to get a good enough position on the drivers side rear one to get it out. If I do get it out, not sure if I could get the replacement in. I have gotten a tool on it, but it seemed very tight and I quit with it. Any tips for getting this hard to get to plug out?

Answer
Hi John -

My only tip is to have the right tools. Over the years, I have found that access to the spark plugs gets harder and harder as they add more amenities to the engine. So the mechanic must be provided with the right tools. I think I mentioned to you in the last message that a flex head ratchet is key to successful removal of the plug. Having a universal socket is essential, and the right length extension. Do you have those? I apologize, as not being there, it is difficult to picture the situation. If you want you can send me a picture of the area where the plug is, and I can try to help - my email is cjiwash@yahoo.com

Might be better to take it to a repair shop and just ask them to replace that one plug. May cost you a few dollars, but saves you a lot of time and headache.

Hope this helps -
