Nissan Repair: Ran out of gas , wont start, fuel pressure gauge, honda techs

Question
Hey Von,
I own a 1991 Civic DX ( i know , i know ; but you've solved all my problems with Nissans and the Honda techs are all on vacation )

So stupid me ran it dry, now at first i was at a buddy's house and put some fuel in it . Was told afterwords that it was over 8 months old .

Tryed cranking it got nothing, couple pops when open throttle. Buddy tossed some fuel in carb ( prob too much ) but still wouldn't start, was told it was flooded.

So went to gas station bought some premium fuel returned , attempted again but same problem occured.
Now we believe we can hear the fuel pump cause it hums , but even so wouldn't it start up since we put some fuel in the carb? so we ruled that out .

Is there potential that its not getting a spark?

Answer
Sebastian,

So, a carburetor equipped Honda will not start after running out of gas.  Now, you have about 50/50 mix of old and new gas.  I would do two things here.  First, get a can of octain boost for the gas like Lucas or your choice and a can of starting fluid.  Add the boost to the gas and use the starting fluid in the carburetor.  Only a little spray and turn over the engine.  Have a rag handy in case it backfires to put out the little flame.  But, that should get the engine to turn over and once it does the fuel should take and the car should run.  If not get a fuel pressure gauge to check for fuel pressure.  And, if there is none start checking to see if the fuel pump fuse is blown or the pump itself is defective.  Email me if you need more.
