Nissan Repair: Wiper Motor Linkage and Wiper arm., windshield wiper motor, nissan pickup

Question
My wiper motor has gone out and I'm fairly well with cars however I have never had to replace a windshield wiper motor before. The vehicle is a 94 Nissan Pickup Hardbody. I've removed the cowl and I can see everything; motor, long wiper arm under the cowl (the one that controls both wipers and connects to the wiper motor), and the linkage. My problem is the Hayne's Manual says to remove the stop ring that retains the linkage to the motor, yet I can't figure out how to do this. I can tell the wiper control arm is connected to the motor by a big plastic ball and theres no other way to disconnect it from the motor other than to pop it off and risk breaking it. I don't want to do this until I'm 100% sure theres no other way to get it off. If pictures would help you answer my question, please email me and I'll send you pictures. Thanks, Cody

Answer
Hi Cody -

You are correct in your assumption. The wiper linkage does snap together, however, if you have enough clearance, the best way is to remove the center nut that holds the linkage to the motor. If you can get the wrench and your hand through the cowl to do this, the job is easier. I think it is a 10mm nut, but not certain. Once you remove this nut, the center link comes off, and then your can remove the motor mounting bolts to remove the motor.

Hope this helps -
