Nissan Repair: Dash board lights and possessed windows, fuse one, lady first

Question
I have a 1991 maxima. I bought this car 2 weeks ago not knowing that the dash lights don't work AND the passenger window rolls down when it wants to. Hubby checked the fuses, says everything looked good (I know looks can be deceiving)but I get frustrated disconnecting the battery just to go into the store. I can't find the fuse for the dash and I am nervous about pulling the door panel to deal with the window. What is the best way to go about this? PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!

Answer
Hi Lady

First of all, make sure that the dimmer switch is not at its lowest setting (I am sorry, sometines the obvious is overlooked!)

If the lights still do not go on, and the fuses are OK - (to check a fuse, the best thing to have is a 12V lamp circuit tester, place the probe on each terminal of each fuse, one by one, ignition on. If there is a situation where one terminal lights and the other does not, then you have found the problem.

If all is well, then there is a good chance that all your bulbs have burned out in the dash too. You will need to remove your instrument panel to access the bulbs.

As far as your window, your switch could be shorting out. Replace the passenger window switch and see what happens.

Please get back to me, I want to walk you through this step by step.
