Nissan Repair: Shifting Problem, nissan pathfinder, transmission shop

I have a 87 Nissan pathfinder 4 wheel drive 6 cylinder. i wanted to get it smog tested but it does not wanna shift when in drive i had tried to replaced the transmission fluid to see if that was the problem and it still didn't work. I was wondering if you might know the problem with it? Thank you.

I will assume it is an automatic?  If this is the case and it will not shift the governor is probably stuck.  That would mean that a transmission shop would have to do the diagnosis.  Now, there is a chance that it is more extensive.  The only way to know is to pull the pan and begin the inspection process.
