Nissan Repair: help, nissan xterra, body control module

Question
How can security system prevent a 2001 nissan xterra from cranking although all lights and panel functionsand it just doesn't do anything?

Answer
Randy,

The body control module in the vehicle reads the key code from your key and allows the system to crank.  If you key has lost its memory on the BCM or you had a key cut and not programmed it will not owrk.  Use your backup key.  There is even some literature in the owners manual talking about multiple Nissan Keys on the same ring interfering with the starting of a vehicle.  So, if you have more than one Nissan just have one key on the ring as not to interfere with the signal.
