Nissan Repair: i found the gasket, control arm bushings, cv boots

Question
QUESTION: hi von. well i got the new distributor in and timed and also found the crankcase vent gasket. it is running 100% better. thank you very much. but i still have the jerking prob.its like when you dont just baby it and try to drive normal there will be some really fast jerkclunk jerkclunk ect. until i get of the gas.easier on the gas its ok. but try to go again and the same. it feels almost like its under my feet when it clunks. ??? could a cv joint be slipping? if so whats that feel like. and what do you think? oh i checked the motor mounts they are tight. well thank you again.  :)  tom

ANSWER: Tom,

There is the distinct possibility that the rear engine mount could be defective.  But, if you checked it then we look at the control arm bushings for the lower control arms and this is usually the back one that gets worn and clunks.  Also, check the CV boots since if they are torn the joints would clunk too.

QUESTION: the cv boots are tight. i reved the engine and it never raised and drop. this is how i tested the motor mounts. i was beginin to think that possibly the engine was cuttitng out and the engine was dropping then raising or something under load..is there 2 feul filters? mabey it is 2 problems a brief stall and control arm clunk. or is it if control arm is bad will it jerk and clunk  i dont get what is in same second a quick jerk and clung. thank you von

Answer
Tom,

There is only one filter.  The one in the tank is just a sock and not really a filter and if it were plugged then you would not have gas.  The jerk action and clunk you describe seems to me to be wither suspension related or it could even be the exhaust if a hanger was allowing contact to the body.
