Nissan Repair: fuel emergency shutt off button, nissan xterra, shutt

Question
2000 nissan xterra acts like it isnt getting gas and wont start, i replaced the fuel filter. I was wonderring if there is a reset button that needs to be reset after replacing the fuel filter? And will the fuel pump humm if it is working?

Answer
Shawna,

The Nissan does not use a fuel cut off switch.  It uses oil pressure and a timing sequence to kill the fuel pump, in the event of an accident.  If it were me I would backprobe the fuel relay first to see if it si defective.  If you have power to and from the relay check the fuel pump.  My experience is the relay usually fails first.  If the Xterra has been run low on fuel over the years the fuel pump will fail since the fuel in the tank is what cools the pump.
