Nissan Repair: 2006 Nissan Xtera Speed Sensor, nissan xtera, speedometer cable

Question
I am installing an indash navagation system in my Xtera. The unit calls for a hookup to the speed sensor. The problem is the store I purchased the unit from said my Xtera does not have a speed sensor. They said only the Xtera's that have the upgraded sound system have speed sensors. I find that hard to belive that a 2006 car with all the other electronics does not have a speed sensor.
Can you tell me if this is true? Or how I can access the car's speed sensor?

Thanks
Louis

Answer
Louis,

The speed sensor is on the transmission where the speedometer cable used to go.  If this is a splice install you can remove the instrument cluster and get the wiring diagram and tie into the unit there.  Basically, the speed sensor is a square wave generator.  Now, if the unit has a speed sensor connection that needs to be made it is probably for making the unit not work playing DVDs unless the vehicle is stopped.  I say this since most GPS units work from the data they get from satellites and not the speed sensor.
