Nissan Repair: mercury villager brake problems, mercury villager, rear brakes

Question
Have you ever come across a 96 villager/quest that will lock up left front and right rear brakes and not show an abs light.I have bled pressure off lf and rr brakes and disconnected abs module harness. then road tested vehicle, brakes will not drag, braking effect is lessened and abs light will stay on as expected. any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Dave

Answer
Dave,

The ABS unit is defective and stuck.  I do not think you can purchase a new one so you will have to source a used or rebuilt unit.  That is, unless you want to bypass the unit by cutting it out of the system and making lines to connect the lines directly.  Yes, it sucks.  But, these are the options and the Villager/Quest of this vintage are known for the ABS problem.  Basically, the internals of the ABS unit are rusted up and in need of a rebuild or replacement.
