Nissan Repair: SEAT BELT LIGHT STAYS ON, single pole single throw, exterra

Question
MY 2001 EXTERRA SEAT BELT INDICATOR LIGHT STAYS ON EVEN WHEN BUCKLED.IT STARTED AFTER I HAD TO APPLY MY BRAKES HARD.

Answer
Larry,

Takata is the primary vendor of seatbelts for Japanese vehicles and they even have a plant in the United States.  Well, they have some issues and one of them is the contact switch in the driver's side seatbelt.  Basically, there is a single pole/single throw switch that is connected all the time.  Battery voltage is supplied when the key is on.  Now, when you put your seatbelt on the light goes out because you opened the circuit.  What is happening is the contact switch in the receiver part of the seatbelt is not opening when you put the seatbelt on and the result is the light stays on.  If you want it corrected you will have to change the receiver part of the seatbelt and that is going to cost about $100 bucks.
