Nissan Repair: Car start then die + clicking sound with key in ignition before start, front wheel drive, cold start

Question
As soon as key is insert and power on (before ignition), there's clicking sound under the hood (not exactly sure where).  I was able to ignite and start the engine.  The engine will then soon die right after.  Please advise which component causes the problem.

Answer
Gil,

The noise under the hood should be normal if it is a front wheel drive as the motor mounts make noise when the key is turned or off.  If the engine dies after you start the car then you have an issue with the cold start.  That is, if it only does it when the engine is cold.  I would look at the cold start sensor.  If it does it all the time I would be looking at a tuneup to start with and then check the codes.  Email me back with the year and the model and we'll get more specific.
