Nissan Repair: 1987 Nissan 300zx (non turbo) 3.0 v-6 5 speed, nissan 300zx, pencil eraser

I'm looking at buying this 300zx but the dash doesn't light up or work. i was told thatbefor they would smack the under side of the dash and it would start working again but now it doesn't. I've been told several times that it is more than likely a short. I was just wanting a better opion becuase things just aren't ever that simple form me. What a great car and I do love them.  The problem with the instrument lights should just be that the cluster needs to be removed and the contacts for the connector and harness get cleaned with a number 2 pencil eraser and then blow off the dust.  You just need to clean them lightly by brushing them.  Also, while the cluster is out it would be a good idea to check each bulb to make sure none are burnt out.
