Nissan Repair: 1992 nissan pathfinder, crank angle sensor, nissan pathfinder

Question
QUESTION: i have a 1992 nissan pathfinder only firing on 3 cylinders, what's the problem ?

ANSWER: Angie,

Do I assume it is a V6?  Really, it does not matter if what you say is that the spark plugs are firing only on three cylinders and not the other one or three.  Anyway, I would think the crank angle sensor in the distributor is defective.  Remove and disassemble the distributor and check for oil on the optics.  If there is oil and there probably is, replace the distributor with a rebuilt unit.  If you have spark and the cylinders are dead check the injectors to make sure they are not plugged or stuck and not providing fuel to the cylinder.

QUESTION: Hi! It's Angie again. Thanks for your prompt response.I have further info. Yes it's a v6.I put new plugs & wires in & #5 plug is running rich,#4&6 are wet with gas.All have blue spark ,any further thoughts.

Answer
Angie,

I would first check and change the fuel filter and add a fuel injector cleaner like Lucas or your preference.  Most have the same additives so your choice.  Then, if that does not do the trick, which I do not think it will I would be looking at injector replacement.  When you say rich and wet with gas that means that the injectors are leaking.  An injector cleaner might get the gunk out and they might work but most of the time, like you describe, it is a matter of injector replacement.  If you want to save money and the wrecking yard will let you it is just a matter of getting a set of a similar year and engine.  I bought a set for $25 bucks at a wrecking yard and new they were $600 bucks.
