Nissan Repair: 1991 King Kab - Flasher replacement, phillips screwdriver, turn signal flasher

Question
QUESTION: My turn signals have both stopped working, no clicking sound - nothing.  I picked up a flasher but cannot find the old one to replace it. Help!  My safety inspection needs to be done!!  Thanks

ANSWER: Bette,

The flasher should be up under the dash.  Hit the emergency flasher and the turn signal flasher should be close to it.  These are really up under the dash so you have to get on your back and remove the knee bolster under the steering wheel to get access.

QUESTION: Well, I changed the flasher and it didn't work. What else do you suggest?
Thanks so much.

Answer
Bette,

If all lights are good and you replaced the flasher unit then the last thing is the turn signal indicator switch itself.  Now, this is an easy one since the steering wheel does not have to come off.  Just remove the cover on the column and replace the switch.  If you have time rockauto.com is the cheapest route and if not then your local parts store.  It only takes a phillips screwdriver and about fifteen minutes to make the switch out.
