Nissan Repair: 94 Nissan Pickup Power Loss, fuel pressure gauge, nissan pickup

Question
Von S: My extremely faithful 94 XE has one recurring problem mainly every August or just near the end of the summer. Around 50-65mph I lose power as if the air is choked off, or the gas isn't pumping. I've replaced all the plugs/lines/electrical possibilities. Air filter too of course. 5 different mechanics have scratched their heads over this b/c it doesn't happen steadily. It comes and goes, but it's most constant in Aug (go figure). I assumed it was heat or gas related. Tried premium gas--still no go. This has been happening every Aug/Sept for the past 3 years. The only thing I haven't done is the fuel pump since the problem will go away during the winter w/ the occasional slip up again. I'm about ready to put in in the shop to replace the fuel pump, but thought I'd look around to see if anyone had a thought or had also experienced this with the pickup. Thanks much.

Answer
Matt,

You can hook up a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel test port and slip the hose under the hood and tape the gauge to the windshield.  Now, if the pressure drops off when the pickup looses power you will know if it is indeed the fuel pump.  Other causes could indicate the ignitor could be the problem since it only does it when it is really warm.  But, I would check the pump first as it is the usual thing to go first.
