Nissan Repair: 1996 Nissan Altima, spark plug wires, nissan altima

Question
it started with just a little hesitation a while back, only when accelerating from zero, like at a traffic light.filled the gas tank, checked the oil and water AND transmission fluid, all good.hesitating progressively got worse over time. then it started stalling out on me, generally when i make a turn.my father-in-law has looked at it many times, trying to figure out the problem, can find nothing.feul pressure is good, no significant build up of oil on the distributor, spark plug wires and plugs are good. i generally have no problem getting it to start up, unless it stalls out on me, then it takes several seconds to get it going again.hooked up a hand-held diagnostic tool to it, no codes or problems from that.we're stumped... a little help please?

Answer
Shawn,

I would look at the distributor again since you say the fuel pressure is good.  Any oil on the optics or shutter wheel will cause the ignition not to fire properly.  You could take the rotor post off along with the cover and using tuner cleaner clean off the shutter wheel and optics followed by compressed air.  The reassemble and drive the car.  If the problem goes away it is time to replace the distributor.  Problem is, the shaft seal fails and oil wicks up the shaft and gets on the optics.  No way to solve it other than a rebuilt distributor.
