Nissan Repair: 1995 Nissan Terrano Throttle Sensor, throttle position sensor, nissan terrano

Question
This problem happens more when the vehicle warms up, first it splutter a little bit when accelerating. When youare traveling around 50 - 70kph and you take your foot off the accelerator the engine sometime has a long surge the the revs increase by about 500 -1000 and then drops and the two green lights showing the two drive go out and the 4WD orange light comes on. If I stop and the go again the green lights come back on and I am back to normal. But this happens regularly and I have been told it is the throttle sensor is this correct and where would I find it.

Answer
John,

Yes, it sounds like the throttle position sensor could be the culpret.  You can get a volt/ohm meter and check the sensor.  It is located on the throttle body.  Another source of the problem could be the manifold absolute pressure sensor and it is located on the intake.  I would do a scan of the system before I replaced either part.  But, with a volt/ohm meter you can check the sweep of the throttle position switch without removal.  Just unplug the connector and, with the engine off, run the throttle from idle to all the way open and see if there are any bald spots.
