Nissan Repair: Electrical, brake light switch, high pitch

Question
Hello V, I own a '88 Pulsar NX. I'm not even sure how to explain so I'll just give you the symptoms. 1>The hatch is open/removed and the brakes are applied, fuse blows instantly. 2>The hatch is closed/attached, brakes can be applied several times before fuse blows. I have replaced the brake light switch behind the petal and have inspected wiring and no fraying or exposed connections were found. Another possible related symptom is the high pitch humming or whinning when radio is on. Changing in pitch with rpm. This is a sudden issue out of no where.  Any clue?

Answer
Harrison,

The two problems are not related.  First, the brake system is getting overloaded by something and that would probably be a brake light socked at the back of the car or the hatch wiring has a short to ground.  The grounds should be tight in the back of the car and rust free.  Check all of these and make sure the hatch switch is not damaged or the harness has not been pinched and wires are cross talking into one another.  Second, the radio has a filter to eliminate whine from the alternator.  Yours is blown.  Go to RadioShack or a stereo shop and get a radio filter for about $15 bucks and install it in the power line to the radio and that noise should go away.
