Nissan Repair: brake problems 2002 xterra, rear wheels, emergency brake

Question
I was just trying to go to a football game, got in started it and let the engine warm up a little then put it in reverse and released the e- brake. "Brake" light stayed on and I could only back up by using a good amount of rpm. Got it back in driveway (bumpy ride)I see some skid marks, did some online searches and most point to either the linkage needing lubricating or the lines needing to be replaced...also my driveway is more or less a hill if that matters any..." I also sent this to Jim before I saw you were a brake guy

Answer
James,

Seems to me that the emergency brake is stuck on.  I would get under the vehicle and see where the emergency brake cable connects to the brake release handle and the rear wheels and see where it is stuck.  Probably lubrication or replacement will be required to get it working properly.  If you can live without the emergency brake you could disconnect it until you get it repaired.
