Nissan Repair: 2000 Sentra Temperature Control, haynes manual, center cluster

My air conditioning has been not on full cold, just yesterday it went full hot.  It seems that the control cable or transmitter on the panel has full rotation with no drag.  Is the control seperate to the air and heater circuits ?  What is needed to repair the a/c heater

The back of the control has a connection on it and these are known to break or come off.  Remove the center cluster and check out the back side to see if the tab is broken or the knob assembly itself has come a apart.  A Haynes Manual is a great book for the illustrations on how to get the center cluster out.
