Nissan Repair: 2005 nissan pathfinder, 2005 nissan pathfinder, nissan pathfinder

Question
How long should brake pads last? My pathfinder after doing 30000KM had brake pads replaced cost $600AUS then 5000KM later was told my rotors are grooved and needed machining cost $800AUS How does this happen with new brake pads??? or should they have done rotors when the pads were replaced??/ If every 30000KM I have to replace pads and rotors I may as well find another car!

Answer
Danes,

First, they no longer use asbestos for brake pad material and the new ones do not work as well and they wear out faster.  So, use Nissan pads or Performance Friction Carbon Metallic so they will last longer.  Next, Nissan has had a problem with their stock rotors as of late and they usually do not last as long as they should.  For some reason aftermarket rotors are better than stock and last longer.  Yes, it seems like you are getting taken.  But, if you insist on the factory pads or the ones I mentioned, along with new or resurfaced rotors you should be good for more miles than what you are experiencing.
