Nissan Repair: wacky gauges, nissan frontier, model vehicle

Question
I have a 2000 Nissan Frontier. All of the gauges in the cluster stop working from time to time. Some times they freeze in position and sometimes they zero themselves out.The condition seems worse when the weather is hot.I pulled the cluster and all of the connections seem tight. The check engine light also comes on when the cluster does not work for long periods. I took it to a mechanic, who put it on an analyzer, but the read out only said the odometer was not working. He also checked all the fuses and said they were ok. He did not want to go any further because he had not had a lot of experience with this model vehicle. Can you help.
Thanks

Answer
Greg,

The connector to the cluster is probably dirty and needs to be cleaned.  Frontiers are known for this.  Remove the cluster and get a number 2 pencil and use the eraser end to scrub, lightly, the contacts on both the harness and the connector on the cluster and blow off the eraser dust and it should work fine.  If not, then the transformer on he back of the cluster is going out.  Email me back if you need more.
