Nissan Repair: 96 Pathfinder intermittently shuts off, fuel pump, bang on

Question
Sometimes at 1st startup, sometimes while driving! Diagnostics pointed to fuel pump before it started again. Fuel pump replaced, problem continued!  Found that if bang on relay few times it starts. Relay replaced-still cuts out. 4 days at dealership, they cannot find problem. Searched web and see others had same problem. Getting dangerous! We have to correct problem by banging on relay box to get car started.  Other than that, its in great condition.  I'm getting desperate - over a year with problem now. Any suggestions?  Anyone??  THANKS!

Answer
Kat,

If you are banging on the relay box and the Pathfinder starts that would lead me to think there is another relay or an intermittent contact in the relay box.  Replace the ECM relay and see what that does.  Also, get tuner cleaner and clean the contacts on the connections inside the relay box and blow out with compressed air like found in the compressed air cans used on computers.
