Nissan Repair: 2000 Maxima, double platinum, o2 sensor

Question
I replaced the spark plugs, and after that the car starts skipping or misfiring. I had the computer checked at a local parts store.  The code says Misfiring and O2 sensor.  What does this sound like? I am wasting a lot of gas like this.  any help would be greatly appreciated

Answer
Stephen,

One or more of the sparkplugs is most likely cracked or the coil connection at the plug has messed up.  There is a spring inside the wire that connects the coil to the spark plug and if these fall out or are corroded you will not have a good connection.  Also, you have a 2000 Maxima and if you have not replaced the coils you should as there was a technical service bulletin on your car.  I have a 2000 and it started missing long after the warranty expired.  I replaced the coils and the car runs great.  Also, replaced the plugs at the same time.  If you used Bosch plugs I would recommend changing to Nippondenso, NGK or Autolite double platinum.  The O2 sensor code is probably related to the raw, unburnt, gas due to the misfire.  Correct the plug and or coil problem and you should be fine.
