Nissan Repair: 91 Nissan 240SX engine stumbling, negative battery cable, throttle position sensor

Question
Ok, here goes. I decided it was time to give the engine a good cleaning with "GUNK". I followed the instructions, or so it seems, covering the distributor with plastic, avoiding electrical wiring and making sure the engine was cool before proceeding. While rinsing, I accidentally got water on the distributor, or at least I think I did because now my engine no longer idles smooth. Any advice on what to check would be appreciated.

Answer
Daniel,

If the water got into the inner workings of the distributor I do not think it would run.  But, to check just remove the distributor cap and dry it out with compressed air or a paper towel and a little spritz of WD40 and then wipe it out again.  Here is what I think is going on.  One of the connectors to the idle air control valve or throttle position sensor or mass airflow sensor has water in it.  Simply unplug each, disconnect the negative battery cable first, and then spritz WD40 into the connector and sensor and wipe off excess and reconnect.  Once you have done all those that got wet reconnect the battery and start the car.  YOu will have to reset the clock and radio but the car should work properly.  You did not mention if there were any codes?  Email me back if I can be of further assistance.
