Nissan Repair: 2001 Maxima rough shift, electrical connection, electrical circuit

Question
My 2001 maxima(GLE) sometimes(Usually) shifts roughly from 1-2.  The shift is fast and "positive" with no unusual revving, etc, but there is an clunk that you can feel and hear.  It's worst at full or nearly full throttle.  Seems even worse if you lift some just before the shift.  It has sometimes been smooth under full throttle though.

Answer
Nathan,

Sounds like a broken motor mount.  Yours are electric and the back one, the one against the firewall, is probably leaking.  The motor mount is gell filled and when electrically charged it firms up.  The mount is rubber with an electrical connection that, when activated, electrifies the gell and it becomes hard.  When the rubber gets old it cracks and the juice leaks out and then the motor mount becomes soft.  Thus, hard and clunky shifts.  The mount is desigend so when at idle the mount is soft and that keeps the engine from vibrating the car.  When in gear and the vehicle starts to move it gets hard via the electrical circuit being grounded by the computer.  I would suggest that you have it looked at and it is most likely in need of replacement.  I have a 2000 Maxima and I had to replace mine last year.
