Nissan Repair: anti-theft, nissan cars, nissan quest

Question
the anti-theft system will not let it start on my 1996 nissan quest

Answer
James,

I assume yours has the door keypad?  If so, it is probably shorted and that is a common problem on Nissan cars.  Otherwise, there is the key that you use to unlock the drivers side door and if the cylinder is not working proerly that will cause the car not to start too.  Lastly is the body control module (BCM).  This is the most expensive device to fix.  If you are sure the anti theft system is the problem you should get someone with a Consult II scantool to run the diagnostics.  If the BCM is working they can turn off the anti theft.  They will give you a hard time since there is a liability concern on their part if your car was to be stolen.  Most will not turn it off and they will let you know what needs to be repaired in the list of systems I described above.
