Nissan Repair: Vannette Imobilizer, electro magnetic interference, seperate rings

Question
My immobilizer is acting up, sometimes it starts, sometimes not, I can tell if its going to as the red light will not be on, with either key (2keys). Can I just disconnect it? Its a 2.3 diesel.
thanks,
craig

Answer
Craig,

No, there is not just a way to disconnect it without doing some interesting wiring job.  The dealer could help with their consult II tool.  I would be looking at the obvious before I go to the dealer.  Make sure you only have one Nissan key on the keyring that you are using to start the Van.  If there is another key within range it can screw up the vehicle where it does not recognize the proper one.  That is the most usual thing.  I have three Nissans and keep the keys on seperate rings because I have had the problem.  Also, you are not working around heavy electric fields as that tends to screw things up.  I used to work in a lab where the equipment put out strong electro-magnetic interference.
