Nissan Repair: Mechanical trouble, nissan bluebird sss, fuel pump relay

My 1996 Nissan Bluebird SSS 2.4 L / Auto has developed an intermittent fault that causes it to run rough to the stage that it will stop. It amy then be hard to start & If it does start, may again run rough or run o.k for a short time. I changed the plugs & fuel filter. No warning lights on dash - I blieve it may be fuel pump related / or relay. Have you any advice?  Regards Wayne

Check the fuel pressure with a gauge and if the pressure drops when the car runs rough or dies then you will know that either the fuel pump relay or fuel pump is defective.  Also, you should check to see if the EGR valve is sticking open as that could cause it to stumble or die.
