How do you reset the check engine light?

A couple of ways to do it.  The first is to remove the negative battery terminal for five minutes to let the capacitors bleed down on the computer and then hook it back up.  The codes will be gone.  The other way is to purchase a scan tool for about $65 bucks.  In the latter you can also read the codes that are set.  If you have not found why the check engine light is on you could go to Autozone or Checker and get them to read the codes for free.  And, they will turn the light off for free.
