Nissan Repair: Emgine Swap 1987 200SX, engine sensors, nissan motors

Question
HI, I was wondering which, if any engines could be swapped into a 1987 200SX, that would give it more power. It currently has a CA20(E) in it. I have access to a few Nissan Motors. Any input would be greatly welcomedm thanks. ---Dave---

Answer
Dave,

I like engine will fit with no modification.  But, you could add an aftermarket intake and exhaust for more torque and power as well as a good cam selection.  You could go for a later model engine with more valves but you are looking at a computer swap that is going to be cost prohibitive and time consuming.  The harness and computer have to be swapped in.  The welding is not tha big a deal in doing engine swaps.  Just remember a couple of things like same design, uses an automatic or standard and get the engine mounts, computer and harness with the drivetrain you get.  Also, you will need to get the exhaust just to the end of the converter.  If you use a 1996 or newer you will have an oxygen sensor behind the converter to rat you out if you take the converter off.  So, if you get a 96 or newer engine be sure to get the exhaust too.  Then it is just a matter of removing yours and installing the new, more powerful, engine and welding up the mount plates and exhaust.  Then, a weekend of working through all the wiring to the engine sensors and such.  Remember, if you get the whole harness it is much easier as you will not have to purchase wiring or sensors.  Also, there are only four wires that really matter and have to be spliced into your car from the new computer.   Power, ground, fuel pump and switched ignition.
