Nissan Repair: Clattering noise!, cam followers, tappets

Question
I blew a haed gasket on my A12 datsun powered Morris minor recently! I had the head skimmed, and replaced the gasket, torqued the head down to spec, adjusted the tappets.  and got her going However once running there is a terribly loud clatter comming from the motor! I'm told the rocckers can wear and cause this or could it be somethibg else? Its in bits again, and no the valves arent hitting the pistons ! Thanks Bobby....

Answer
Bobby,

If the cam does not get oil the tappets (cam followers) will make noise.  Check for oiling to the top end.  If the headgasket is wrong it will not allow oil to get to the top end.  I like to run the engine to temperature and then set the cam followers to get the lash correct.
