Nissan Repair: nissan engine swap with a 289 v8, driveshaft shop, nissan engine

Question
i have a 1996 nissan pickup with a 2.4 inline 4 with a 5 speed trans. i have a small block 289 with a c4 trany. will the motor itself drop into the truck and hook up to the old trans from the 2.4? or will i have to use the c4. and will i need a engine swap kit for the motor to hook up with the old trans. if so which kit?

Answer
Michael,

It will fit but you are looking at some work to make it happen.  You will have to use the C4 transmission since no one makes an adapter that I am aware of.  Second, the motor mount stands will have to be fabricated.  Save the driveshaft from the C4 and from the truck and have the yoke from the C4 put on the Nissan driveshaft.  You will have to measure once the 289 and C4 is installed to get the length right.  A good driveshaft shop will do the cutting and splicing along with a balance.  The wiring will be a cut and splice to make the sensors and ignition work as will the alternator and starter hookup.  It is something that can be done but it will take some custom work.
