Nissan Repair: misfire code on startup, nissan pathfinder, toyota tech

Question
1997 Nissan Pathfinder v-6 Just replaced dist due to bad shaft also replaced plugs and wires.vehicle runs great except when you start vehicle it will set a misfire code. I can clear the code while the vehicle is running and it will not come back until you start it up again. It has done this several times. You read the freeze frame info and it shows the code is set at start-up.I am a Toyota Tech and i have not seen this before. I am only working on this vehicle as a favor for a friend. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Answer
Ingo,

If the code is set at startup look for an issue with the ignition circuit where it ties into the coil as the start is 12 volts and the run is 9 volts.  It could be as simple as a coil that is needing to be replaced and when the extra current for starting is applied it shorts, internally, to ground and sets the code.  Or the start power feed is got a cut in the insulation and it is allowing current to feed to ground.  Basically, the circuit gets set due to one of these.  I have seen it, but not often, where a new cap has a defect in it and the start current allows a ground path and that will set the code too.
