Nissan Repair: Testing ignition coils...engine running rough, vacuum hoses, nissan maxima

Hello Von,
I have a 1995 nissan maxima and it's been running great till I couldn't start the car and I brought it to a nissan dealer and they changed my starter and now my engine seems to run rough,and shake a bit and from the exhaust it sounds like a "putt putt putt" constant stream coming from the exhaust, is it my coils? how do i test it with an ohm meter? Thanks in advance for you expertise...

You probe the connections with the ohm meter using the values given in the service manual.  If they check out of range replace them.  But, from my experience I would say something was knocked loose from replacement of the starter.  Check the vacuum hoses for cracks or being pulled off on that side of the engine.  A Haynes Manual will give you the values for your coil.
