Nissan Repair: nissan patrol alternator, electrical rebuilder, zd30

Question
QUESTION: can you give me a part # and maker of a 2001 nissan patrol zd30(diesel)engine's alternator and where can i buy it at an affordable price in the internet?
My patrol is in the Philippines and im currently out of the country. Been checking out the part in the net but couldnt find any information.
Thank you for your help.
ANSWER: John,

I do not know the part number on your Patrol since I am in the United States.  But, I would check out rockauto.com or courtesynissan.com as these two on-line stores have been quite successful in getting me the parts I need at a reasonable price.  Now, if it is just the brushes in your alternator you could tear it down and replace just those.  Check around local and you might find that you have an electrical rebuilder.  Usually, the brushes are the first thing to go and if that is the case it is a cheap fix.

QUESTION: thank you very much for your quick response. aside from cost, what would be the difference if i get a new one compared to rebuilding it?

Answer
John,

The alternator is internally regulated and as such it is pretty much indestructable.  A brush kit would not be a problem in getting the alternator working properly again.  But, you would have to part the case and check the condition of the brushes.  If they are worn down and that is the only thing that is wrong it would be cost effective to just change the brushes.  If something else is wrong then a rebuild is in order.
