Nissan Repair: 1997 Frontier Electrical/Ignition, neutral safety switch, battery cable

Question
Von--
My engine will not turn over and the starter seems to not be turning either. I have full set of cluster lights, the radio works, wipers, AC , etc., but when I turn the key to the "Start" position I get nothing. There is a sound in the passenger side of the engine bay but it is not the starter (a cylinder with a few vacuum hoses coming out of it). All of the fuses are ok.

Ideas? And thank you in advance...

Answer
Josh,

If you turn the key and get nothing I would check the starter by using a length of wire from the positive battery cable to the small terminal on the starter.  If the starter turns you probably have a defective neutral safety switch. But, with the year you probably are looking at a starter replacement.
