Nissan Repair: 1993 Maxima intermittent electric problems, nissan maxima gxe, neutral safety switch

Question
I have a 1993 Nissan Maxima GXE (auto).  Sometimes, the car won't start.  Like, I'll turn the key, but nothing will happen.  Usually, within a few tries, it will randomly work again and start, but the problem is driving me crazy!  The car also has a seatbelt alarm that goes off intermittently even though the seatbelts are in and locked.  Please help!

Answer
Nathan,

Sounds like the neutral safety switch.  If the car will start while you shift from park to neutral and back to park replace the switch and if not you probably have a defective starter.  You can bridge the starter and if it starts you have to look at the neutral safety switch and the ignition switch.  The contact in the seatbelt is defective and this is a known problem for the your car.  I have had it fail on several.  If you want the feature you can get another seatbelt connector (the part that you plug the seat belt into) and that has the wire and connector.  If you do not care and just want to get rid of the noise unplug the seatbelt wire under the seat.
