Nissan Repair: service engine light - p1706, obd ii scanner, neutral safety switch

the service engine soon light came on just a day or two ago for my Nissan
Frontier 2000 2.4L manual transmission. today i just went into autozone and
borrowed their OBD II scanner. the codes came out as P1706 which i believe
is the Park Neutral Position Switch. i dont feel anything wrong with the car so
i dont know whats going on.

ALSO. i tried erasing the code to see if the problem will reoccurr later on, but
when i did that the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light didn't go off like it was
suppose to. any help on that?

Yes, that is the neutral safety switch failing.  The part about starting is probably fine.  But, the signal that is sent to the computer is screwing up.  I would replace the switch and disconnect the battery and wait five minutes before hooking it back up.  The error will be gone.
