Nissan Repair: 2005 NISSAN SENTRA PARKING PAWL, 2005 nissan sentra, nissan sentra

Question
WHERE IS THE PARKING PAWL ACCESSED FROM AND HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO REPAIR ? THE CAR WAS PARKED AND HIT IN THE FRONT END BY ANOTHER CAR GOING ABOUT 20MPH.ALL OTHER GEARS WORK.THANKS!

Answer
Larry,

The parking pawl is in the transmission and that means that the valve body and some other components have to come off to install a new one.  Basically, it is a rod that sticks into the rotating mass of the transmission and that is what holds the car when in park.  It is sheared off and has to be replaced.  Check with Cottman as that is probably the cheapest route.  Otherwise, if you are a do it yourselfer you could get the part from Nissan and the pan gasket and take the day to tear it down and install.
